Controls Engineer (Ignition) - Saline - Oracle
Saline, MI
POSITION: Controls Engineer - Data Center Monitoring & Controls (Ignition)
DATA CENTER TALNT JOB DESCRIPTION
CLIENT: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) - Data Center Design and Construction
LOCATION: Saline, MI (Onsite)
ENGAGEMENT: Contract via TALNT (term and rate per SOW)
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is building and scaling mission-critical data center capacity in Saline, MI. TALNT is staffing specialist engineering contractors to support OCI's Design and Construction team through design review, construction, integration, and commissioning. Contractors embed with the OCI owner's team and coordinate with the General Contractor, MEP trades, design consultants (AE), controls integrators, and the commissioning authority.
ROLE
Own the data center controls and monitoring layer across the BMS (Building Management System), EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System), and SCADA/HMI. Hands-on Ignition (Inductive Automation) experience is required: this site standardizes monitoring and visualization on Ignition, and the Controls Engineer is responsible for the application, tags, screens, alarming, and historian that the operations team will run the building on.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years in industrial/building controls, with demonstrated data center, mission-critical, or comparable 24/7 facility experience
- Hands-on Ignition (Inductive Automation) development: Perspective and/or Vision, Tag Historian, alarm pipelines, OPC-UA connectivity, and gateway administration
- PLC programming and integration (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or comparable) and field protocols: Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet/IP, OPC-UA, SNMP
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings, sequences of operation (SOO), points lists, and network architecture diagrams
- Comfortable onsite in an active construction/commissioning environment; OSHA-compliant jobsite conduct
PREFERRED
- BMS/EPMS integration for hyperscale or colocation data centers (UPS, switchgear, generators, ATS, PDU, CRAH/CRAC, chillers)
- SQL databases for historian/reporting; redundant gateway and network design; cybersecurity hardening of OT networks
- Support of Level 4/5 commissioning and integrated systems testing
SCOPE
Design / Preconstruction
- Review controls design, points lists, and sequences of operation for completeness, redundancy, and operability; flag gaps to the OCI team and design consultants
- Establish Ignition standards: tag structure, UDTs, screen templates, alarm philosophy, and historian configuration
Construction / Integration
- Develop and configure the Ignition application: tags, Perspective/Vision screens, alarming, trending, and historian
- Integrate BMS/EPMS field devices and PLCs over Modbus/BACnet/OPC-UA; validate point-to-point and end-to-end signal paths
- Coordinate with controls integrators, MEP trades, and the GC on device addressing, network architecture, and panel installation
Commissioning / Turnover
- Support functional testing, IST, and L4/L5 commissioning; verify sequences, alarms, and trends behave per design
- Produce as-built controls documentation and operator screens; support operations handover and trainingJune 2, 2026
