CONFIDENTIAL CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Sales Engineer
Own a Proven Southeast Territory With Room to Double
Global Motion Control Manufacturer | Southeast U.S. (Territory-Based) | $125K–$150K+ OTE, Year One
THE HOOK
Right now, you're probably winning business in spite of your manufacturer, not because of it. Every quote takes weeks. Every custom spec needs three approvals you don't control. And by the time you finally land the account, you've spent half your energy chasing your own factory instead of chasing the next one. This territory works differently. Products ship in 1 to 5 days on items competitors quote in weeks, and that speed alone gets a skeptical buyer's attention before you've said a word about price. You'd be inheriting a Southeast territory that was healthy before, sits open today with an established account base, and has the headroom to more than double for the person willing to go build it.
ROLE AT A GLANCE
Title: Sales Engineer
Territory: Southeast U.S.
Reports To: Regional Manager
Location: Remote, territory-based
Travel: Approximately 35%
Structure: Base salary + uncapped commission
THE COMPANY
Our client is a global manufacturer of precision motion control technology, gearboxes, servo motors, and integrated drive systems used across industrial automation and OEM equipment. Generations of engineering discipline back the product line, and the company has built its reputation less on being the cheapest option and more on being the one that actually shows up when it matters.
The single biggest weapon in this territory's arsenal is speed. Standard lead times run 1 to 5 days, an order of magnitude faster than most of the competitive set, which turns delivery into a sales tool instead of an excuse customers have learned to expect. Behind that speed sits a deep factory support structure: application engineering, product specialists, and a marketing team all built to keep the sales team selling instead of babysitting orders.
It's a culture that rewards people who take ownership. Compensation structure is built around how much risk an individual rep wants to carry, not a one-size-fits-all plan, and leadership explicitly expects new hires to test ideas, take some smart risks, and learn fast rather than wait for permission.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
A Southeast territory with an established base of active accounts from day one, not a cold start
The relationships with your distribution partners, who you'll train, motivate, and grow directly
New OEM business you identify, pursue, and close, with full credit and commission on what you build
A direct line into product management, application engineering, and marketing, so technical complexity becomes your edge instead of your bottleneck
The runway to rebuild a territory that's already proven what it can do once it's actively worked to standard
THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Base Salary: $75,000 – $120,000, based on experience
Commission: Uncapped, tied to sales revenue; base/commission split is negotiated around your own comfort with risk
Year-One OTE: $125,000 – $150,000+, higher for the right candidate
Plan / Quota: Double-digit year-over-year growth on a territory starting at roughly $3M
Vehicle: Company car or monthly auto allowance
Benefits: 100% company-paid health insurance, 401(k) match, company laptop and demo equipment
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
If you're the rep who already knows a sale is won by showing up early, listening hard, and solving the actual problem instead of pushing the catalog, this was written for you.
You're self-motivated to the point that "supervision" is basically a formality
You'd rather walk away from a bad-fit account than win it on price
You bring real technical fluency, comfortable being the expert in the room on gearboxes, servo motors, or drives, or hungry to get there fast
You think in territory-building terms, distribution health, OEM pipeline, account trajectory, not just this month's number
You've earned your track record the hard way. Your growth is something you drove, not something that landed in your lap
THE PATH FORWARD
The first 12 months are straightforward in intent, if not in effort: re-engage the existing distribution network, get fluent in the product line, and start converting a backlog of untapped OEM opportunity into signed business.
This territory has already proven it can support more than double its current base once it's actively worked to standard. For the person who rebuilds that and keeps building, there's a growth track into larger strategic accounts, and for the right person over time, a path toward regional leadership as the territory matures.
