Junior Trading/Fintech Software Engineer
Greenwich, CT
$110,000 - $140,000
Kickstart your career in finance at this stable Greenwich hedge fund hedge fund where tech is respected and drives the business. You'll join an 8+ person engineering team that's embedded directly with portfolio managers, traders, and quants, not tucked behind a ticket queue.
The Setup
Fixed income focused trading strategies with a long, steady record, still adding new capabilities as the business evolves
New work in Python and AI: unstructured data, LLM-assisted workflows, and internal tooling that didn't exist a couple years ago
This is not a pure AI or quant-modeling role. It's business-first: the work only matters if it holds up under a trader's or PM's scrutiny
Core systems run on .NET/C#/SQL Server; mature, production-grade, and not going anywhere
CTO rose through the ranks from senior developer and remains close to the software team. This isn't a hire-and-disappear leadership structure.
What You'd Own
A real hand in the firm's AI buildout: LLMs and AI-assisted workflows woven into internal tools, research pipelines, and developer tooling itself
Individual contributions and, over time, ownership over projects that impact revenue, not the just ticket queue
Production support on systems people actually depend on: signal dashboards, portfolio management, trade feeds, risk, accounting
Modernizing and extending existing APIs, frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines using proven architectural patterns, not reinventing what already works
Data analysis and reconciliation work that validates whether a system is actually right, not just running
Why This One's Different
You're not siloed with other junior engineers. You're in the room with senior engineers, portfolio management, research, and trading on day one
The firm's most senior technologists came up through this same function, so the path from junior engineer to real influence depends on your effort and contribution
Old-school infrastructure, but the appetite for Python and AI-driven work is real and growing. You'd be building the newer half of that story, not just maintaining the old one
Flexible, non-linear growth: engineering, research, even portfolio-adjacent paths are genuinely open over time
Who Fits
Recent grad through ~3 years out, internships and independent projects count
Solid computer science fundamentals; syntax, algorithms and data structures, design patterns, even without a conventional finance-tech background
Comfortable with SQL and a handle on query performance, not just syntax
Already building with AI-assisted coding tools (RAG, LLMs, Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) and has a thoughtful point of view on using them in production code, not just a toy project
Working knowledge of C#, JavaScript, or TypeScript; React exposure is a plus, and you're comfortable owning front-end work, not just consuming it
Python is ideal, but not a prerequisite. The curiosity to pick it up fast matters
Strong sense of ownership: you don't wait to be told exactly what to build
Growth
Career paths here aren't linear. Technologists have moved into research, risk, even trading-adjacent roles over time
Advancement comes from real contribution and business impact, not tenure
