Job Description

Role Summary

The Platform Architect will serve as the technical “north star” for the design, integration, and evolution of a large-scale enterprise data platform across customer deployments and complex programs. This role is responsible for defining scalable, secure, and composable architectures that support on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments while meeting demanding enterprise requirements.

This is a forward-facing, highly influential role requiring deep technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and a customer-centric mindset. The Platform Architect will participate in architecture governance, guide implementation teams, and ensure all solutions align with open-source, modular, and composable design principles.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architect and evolve an end-to-end data platform across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments based on customer requirements and constraints.

  • Design and define integration points across data services, pipelines, orchestration, governance, and security layers.

  • Translate solution requests and business requirements into scalable, secure, and compliant architecture blueprints.

  • Lead and participate in Architecture Review Boards (ARBs), ensuring deployments align with enterprise standards and architectural principles.

  • Define, document, and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and integration frameworks.

  • Guide platform engineers and client teams on best practices for security, observability, reliability, and scalability.

  • Oversee the selection, integration, and tuning of open-source components for data processing, orchestration, governance, and analytics.

  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to evolve the long-term platform architecture and technical roadmap.

  • Mentor engineers and collaborate with DevOps, Security, and DataOps teams to drive architectural alignment and platform maturity.

Key Skills & Tools

Core Technologies

  • Spark, Trino, Airflow, NiFi, YuniKorn, Superset, Iceberg, Ranger, DataHub, S3

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Terraform, Kubernetes (K8s), OpenShift (OCP), Docker, Linux

Security & Governance

  • IAM, SSO, KMS, Kerberos, Encryption, RBAC

Monitoring & Observability

  • Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus

Programming Languages

  • Java, Scala, Python (preferred)

Architecture Practices

  • Solution design, reference architectures, system modeling, scaling patterns

Ideal Background

  • 8–12 years of experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed data platforms, ideally in regulated or compliance-driven environments.

  • Proven experience as a technical architect or senior engineer working with open-source data platforms and large enterprise deployments.

  • Hands-on experience integrating and operating open-source data tools across hybrid-cloud and containerized environments.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise security and governance frameworks (e.g., SOX, FFIEC, GDPR).

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence architectural decisions across engineering and client organizations.

Success Criteria

  • Delivery of a validated, production-ready platform architecture that meets enterprise and customer requirements.

  • Successful approval outcomes from Architecture Review Boards and internal security and governance reviews.

  • Clearly defined and documented integration standards adopted across all implementation teams.

  • Effective enablement of platform engineers and developers through reusable patterns, templates, and technical guidance.

  • Measurable reductions in deployment friction, downtime, or rework during platform rollouts.
