Full Stack Engineer
Toronto, ON
About the Company
Our client is an early-stage, seed-funded startup building the trust layer for hiring in the AI era. AI has made it easier than ever to fake credentials, impersonate real people, and apply to jobs at scale using synthetic identities. This company is building a new standard for security in hiring — fraud detection, deepfake analysis, and identity verification for enterprise recruiting teams.
They raised $5M from top-tier investors to step on the gas.
About the Role
We're hiring a Full Stack Engineer to join the core engineering team in Toronto. You'll own features end-to-end — from API design and data modelling on the backend to the dashboards and workflows enterprise recruiters use every day to act on Tofu's fraud and identity signals.
What You'll Do
- Build user-facing product features that surface fraud detection, deepfake analysis, and identity verification results to enterprise recruiting teams
- Design and implement backend APIs and services connecting detection models, scoring systems, and frontend surfaces
- Develop responsive, accessible UIs in React that turn complex risk data into clear, actionable workflows
- Contribute to data pipelines and integrations with ATS platforms and customer systems
- Partner with design, product, and ML to ship features quickly without sacrificing quality
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping full-stack products
- Strong proficiency across the stack — Python on the backend (hard requirement) and React/TypeScript on the frontend
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Experience building applications on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) using Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong proficiency in SQL
- Experience with Elasticsearch (hard requirement — search and analytics engine integration)
Preferred Experience
- Experience building enterprise B2B SaaS products or admin/dashboard interfaces
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Experience with design systems, accessibility (a11y), and frontend performance optimization
- Experience integrating with third-party platforms (ATS, identity providers, SSO)
- Background in fraud detection, identity verification, or security-adjacent domains
What You'll Bring
- Ability to own and manage concurrent initiatives with strong prioritization judgment
- Product-minded — you care about UX as much as architecture
- Driven and self-managed, capable of turning ambiguous problems into shipped features
- Strong communication and collaboration across design, engineering, and product
- Ability and interest in mentoring more junior engineers
Benefits & Perks
- Competitive salary + meaningful equity
- Comprehensive health benefits
- 3 weeks vacation
- New laptop and gear
